INDEX / STORY
When the 2025 fires swept through LA, families lost not only homes but also the objects that made their spaces their own. Months later, many are still in temporary housing, or completely new spaces stripped of character and warmth. In speaking with families who lost everything, what stands out isn’t just the absence of furniture, it’s the absence of familiar anchors: a mirror that had moved with them from place to place or rug that instantly warmed a room. These are objects that give a sense of place and comfort, collected over time, reminders of their pasts.
Collective is a volunteer effort of design and art professionals pooling resources to help restore that sense of place. We’re talking directly with families and sourcing thoughtful replacements for the specific pieces they miss most: the items that turned a house into their home. We’re working through conversations and outreach to connect those who are missing things to those who may have something extra, which in the right hands would be cherished aspart of someone’s new chapter. We’d love your help in making those connections.
